Using Mixed Poisson Models in Patient Recruitment in Multicentre Clinical Trials
نویسنده
چکیده
To address different uncertainties associated with patient recruitment in multicentre clinical trials a mixed Poisson model is elaborated (patients arrive at different clinical centres according to delayed doubly stochastic Poisson processes with gamma distributed rates). Analytic approach to modeling and predicting the recruitment at the initial and ongoing stages is suggested. A Bayesian approach to reestimating recruitment rates using data at intermediate time point and predicting the remaining recruitment time and the number of recruited patients in centres/regions is proposed. Different performance measures of centres are considered.

متن کاملA systematic review of models to predict recruitment to multicentre clinical trials
BACKGROUND Less than one third of publicly funded trials managed to recruit according to their original plan often resulting in request for additional funding and/or time extensions. The aim was to identify models which might be useful to a major public funder of randomised controlled trials when estimating likely time requirements for recruiting trial participants. The requirements of a useful...
متن کاملFactors Affecting Hospital Length of Stay Using Mixed Poisson Regression Models
Background and purpose: Modeling of Hospital Length of Stay (LOS) is of great importance in healthcare systems, but there is paucity of information on this issue in Iran. The aim of this study was to identify the optimal model among different mixed poisson distributions in modeling the LOS and effective factors. Materials and methods: In this cross-sectional study, we studied 1256 records, inc...

Addiction to drugs, such as heroin, cocaine and alcohol, exacts great human and financial costs on society. Various evidence-based pharmacological and psychosocial interventions are currently used in the treatment of drug addiction but they do not produce adequate therapeutic benefits in every patient. Further, barriers such as financial cost, lack of availability, or perceptions of existing tr...
متن کاملModelling clinical trial recruitment using poisson processes
Forecasting recruitment to clinical trials is often too simplistic and rarely statistical. This is unfortunate because modelling trial recruitment is simple using Poisson processes. The simplest case is to assume patients arrive randomly at a constant rate, using homogeneous Poisson processes to simulate sample recruitment curves. In contrast, time-varying complexity can be incorporated using n...
